It’s like they can very quickly project something. It’s like a movie screen, but it’s not a movie screen. But they can project something there if they want to see it.

An Alien Harvest (1989) is the self-published book by the journalist and documentary maker Linda Moulton Howe that grew out of her Emmy-winning 1980 documentary A Strange Harvest on cattle mutilations. It argues that the mutilations, with organs removed apparently surgically and no tracks or blood, are linked to UFOs and human abductions, and recounts her 1983 meeting at Kirtland Air Force Base where the AFOSI agent Richard Doty showed her what he said was a presidential briefing paper on extraterrestrial contact.

That meeting is now understood very differently: Doty has since said he was ordered to show her a document mixing truth and deception, part of the disinformation campaign around Paul Bennewitz. Veterinary and law-enforcement investigations, including the 1980 report for the state of New Mexico by the former FBI agent Kenneth Rommel, attributed most mutilations to predators, scavengers and decomposition. The book is Howe's reporting and interpretation.
