complex hoaxes that have been carefully engineered for our benefit.
the weeds and the vines of human fantasy and...the poisonous flowers of unbalanced minds.
Revelations (Ballantine, 1991), the last book of Jacques Vallée's trilogy, turns from the phenomenon to the people who use it. He examines the stories of crashed saucers, alien treaties and underground bases that spread in the 1980s, including the MJ-12 papers and the Paul Bennewitz affair, and argues that much of this lore was planted or amplified by human disinformation, some of it from intelligence circles, muddying the real mystery. It sits beside his 1990 paper "Five Arguments Against the Extraterrestrial Origin of Unidentified Flying Objects" and is one of the earliest serious treatments of deliberate UFO disinformation.
