Glimpses
I cannot afford to write this story, because I cannot expect anyone to believe it. At the same time I cannot sweep it under the rug. There is only one Melchizedek listed in the LA phone book, and I have the receipt signed by the driver right in front of me.
Messengers of Deception (And/Or Press, 1979) is Jacques Vallée's investigation of UFO contactee groups and cults, written after he spent time among them in the 1970s. He warns that belief in benevolent space visitors can be exploited, and raises the possibility that some of the phenomenon is staged or manipulated by human groups, including intelligence services, to test or steer belief. It is speculative, but its warning about deception and the use of UFO lore for disinformation anticipated later documented cases, such as the 1980s Bennewitz affair.
