NewsNation on PURSUE release 07: the black triangle over a sensitive site (Reality Check, 23 October 2026)

NewsNation · 23 October 2026 · 3 min · Watch the original

NewsNation's three-minute news report on PURSUE release 07, broadcast the morning of 23 October 2026 and posted on the Reality Check channel. The reporter is not named. It leads on the black triangle seen by federal agents at a sensitive site in the western United States, then covers the 1950s Air Force reports and the 1960s space-debris correspondence.

The moments compare the report with the official records. Several details differ from the AARO memorandum (DOW-UAP-D176) and the FBI report (FBI-UAP-D043): the number of reports, the speed, "radar" for what were thermal devices, and military witnesses where the records describe federal agents. The claim about unnamed officials is the outlet's alone. Transcribed with Whisper.

Key moments

  1. 0:00 NewsNation, the morning of the release: “the White House releasing a new tranche of UAP or UFO documents newly declassified”, some “dating back all the way to the 40s, 50s and 60s.” (The records were published by the Department of War on war.gov/UFO, under the White House's PURSUE program.)
  2. 0:29 The report speaks of “three separate reports” of “a black triangle-shaped craft”, and says “All three times this craft was flying over sensitive military sites.” The release itself has two records of the triangle, an AARO memorandum and an FBI report. They describe one incident by federal agents at a national security site, with observations over two days.
  3. 0:50 “A 200 to 300-foot elevation that this craft flew at, about nine feet long, about a 13-foot wingspan”: AARO's debrief gives 200 to 300 feet above the ridge line, a six-to-nine-foot fuselage and a thirteen-to-fifteen-foot wingspan.
  4. 0:58 The report shows “this rendering of the object”. The FBI file includes nine photographs of the site with the triangle drawn along its path (pages 3–11). The report also says it travelled “roughly a mile and a half in less than three seconds”. In the agents' statement, 1.5 miles is the range at which they lost sight of it and three seconds is the length of the sighting.
  5. 1:11 “It had no obvious propulsion mechanism. It gave off no sound. It had no lights.” The report says “on radar measuring heat” it had nothing of a normal jet; the agents in fact used thermal devices. AARO records a uniform thermal signature with no exhaust, while the agents' own statement calls it hotter than ambient.
  6. 1:43 Unnamed officials, according to the report, said “the U.S. may even be years away from developing any technology like what these military personnel saw.” Neither record says this, and the witnesses are federal law-enforcement agents, not military personnel; AARO reaches no conclusion on the object.
  7. 1:57 The report mentions “flying cylinder-shaped objects” from “the 60s and 70s in Saudi Arabia, in Sweden”. The release's Saudi Arabia and Sweden reports date from 1957 and 1953: a B-52's gunnery-scope return and a shining, nearly round metallic object seen from a DC-3.
  8. 2:13 A 1960s guideline on what to do with craft that fall from space, covering U.S. technology, Russian technology, “and a third category describing technology the government could not identify or place.” The correspondence itself (USG-UAP-D002) sorts fragments by whether they came from U.S. or foreign launches and speaks of trying to establish the origin of an object of uncertain source; it sets out no separate category of unidentifiable technology.

0:00 Good morning, breaking news just this morning, the White House releasing a new tranche of UAP or UFO documents newly declassified again just today, some of them dating back all the way to the 40s, 50s and 60s. But perhaps the most intriguing and maybe concerning documents are from just this year, three separate reports of what I'm going to describe here in the documents the FBI and the Pentagon are calling a black triangle-shaped craft that they cannot really explain. All three times this craft was flying over sensitive military sites, and this is what the documents describe. A 200 to 300-foot elevation that this craft flew at, about nine feet long, about a 13-foot wingspan. And the Pentagon releasing this rendering of

1:01 the object here, they say it flew at military personnel, according to the report, traveling roughly a mile and a half in less than three seconds. But it had no obvious propulsion mechanism. It gave off no sound. It had no lights. And on radar measuring heat, it had none of the characteristics of a normal jet or a normal plane. So simply put, the government is acknowledging in these new documents that these aircraft at least three separate times flew over our sensitive military sites in ways that our best and most advanced technology could not keep up with and could not replicate. Some officials that we heard from described that the U.S. may even be years away from developing any technology like what these military personnel saw with their own eyes as recently as this year. Among these new documents also released, reportings of flying cylinder-shaped objects

2:03 dating back again to the 60s and 70s in Saudi Arabia, in Sweden, and in other places never before declassified until now. Also in the new documents dating back to the 60s, NASA releasing a guideline for the U.S. government on how to handle flying craft that falls from space. Now remember, in the space race in the 1960s, the U.S. and Russia primarily were putting satellites into orbit. So there are guidelines for what to do with U.S. technology that falls from space, Russian technology, and a third category describing technology the government could not identify or place. And in that third category clearly that has sparked some interest at the White House, they decided to group it together with all of these new UAP documents now declassified and open for the public to see.
