Israeli fighter pilot: “I saw a UFO over Israel's skies” (Dror Gorlik, Anomaly)

Also known as Dror Gorlik interview

Anomaly · 11 September 2026 · 15 min · Watch the original

A 15-minute interview on the Hebrew-language channel Anomaly with Dror Gorlik, a former Israeli Air Force F-15 pilot and squadron commander, who tells on camera and under his full name, for the first time, of an object he saw while returning to land at Tel Nof Air Base in 1998. He is interviewed by his son, who writes and presents the channel. It opens with a montage of officials' statements on UAP from the U.S. and Brazil.

The interview is in Hebrew. The transcript is the archive's English translation of the channel's own Hebrew subtitles, line by line with the same timings (the Hebrew is kept beside it), and the moments quote that translation, not his exact words.

Key moments

  1. 2:49 Dror Gorlik: Gorlik: 21, almost 22 years in the Israeli Air Force's fighter corps, flying Skyhawks, Kfirs and F-15s; he commanded two squadrons, ended as head of a branch in the Operations Department, then flew 27 years at El Al.
  2. 3:20 Dror Gorlik: About 25,000 flight hours, the 1982 and 2006 Lebanon wars, air-to-air missions: “friend or foe, if it's a MiG, then which MiG?”
  3. 4:07 Dror Gorlik: 1998, an Air Force-wide exercise: flying an F-15 of 106 Squadron, he is number 2 in a pair returning to Tel Nof around 12:30 on a cloudless summer day; his leader is a two-seater with a pilot and a navigator.
  4. 4:46 Dror Gorlik: Entering the circuit he sees “some strong yellow light”, low near the ground, first taking it for an aircraft entering the circuit the wrong way, head-on to his leader.
  5. 5:33 Dror Gorlik: It passes “On the order of 300-400 meters” to his left, so he makes no evasive manoeuvre.
  6. 5:49 Dror Gorlik: “A metallic object in the shape of, I would say, a mushroom or a muffin”: not shiny but clearly silver, a row of yellow lights around its rim, a dome on top, truncated underneath, no trail and no visible means of propulsion.
  7. 6:51 Dror Gorlik: He follows it through the F-15's canopy until it disappears between the tails, heading north; to this day he can't explain why he didn't light the afterburner and turn after it.
  8. 7:26 Dror Gorlik: Before the whistleblowers, he says, anyone reporting such things was treated as hallucinating or telling stories, and he didn't want to be associated with that.
  9. 8:01 Dror Gorlik: At the debrief the other pilot saw nothing; the navigator says “I saw a strong yellow light passing under our wing” and had chosen not to mention it.
  10. 8:22 Dror Gorlik: The control tower saw nothing, and air control had no radar return around Tel Nof.
  11. 8:48 Dror Gorlik: He drew the object for a senior officer (name and post censored) and asked whether Israel had such things; the answer, “we asked for it, there's no budget”, told him it wasn't Israeli.
  12. 10:31 Dror Gorlik: His gunsight camera only records after gear-down, so it filmed nothing; there were no helmet cameras then, and radar and IFF showed “Nothing at all”.
  13. 11:16 Dror Gorlik: A weather balloon? “I've seen weather balloons”, he says, and a rocket launch near Almaty: “I've never seen anything like this ever. Not before and not after.”
  14. 11:41 Dror Gorlik: Even when hit by a missile he knew what was happening and was in control; “Here I knew nothing.” In an F-15, built to shoot aircraft down, “I did nothing.”
  15. 12:28 Dror Gorlik: He told the story at El Al and to an astrophysicist who collects such testimony, on condition his name not be published.
  16. 12:50 Dror Gorlik: Why now, on camera and by name: “too many people in too many places are already talking about it much more openly”, and he keeps seeing the same shape in footage, mostly from aircraft.
  17. 13:29 Dror Gorlik: When he tells the story, other people usually say they saw something too: “Big sky, small planes, but all sorts of things are apparently flying around up there.”

0:00 A flying object I can't explain to this day. Why should people listen to you? Everyone will do as they see fit. Again, I... My yardstick is that I'm telling this to you and I'm your father. I wish I could explain it better. I can't. But I know that I can't explain it. And I know that it falls, for me at least, within a field that is my expertise This is my father, a former fighter squadron commander in the Air Force. About 20 years ago he saw something in the sky that changed his whole perception of reality, and as a result mine too. Unexplained anomalous phenomena, or by their former name UFOs, are very real. But don't take my word for it Objects in the sky whose origin we don't know exactly We are releasing a great deal of information touching on subjects beyond Earth We are trying to make the UFO subject public. If the U.S. discloses what it knows, Brazil can also disclose what it has discovered on the subject. I learned of a multi-decade program to retrieve unidentified craft (UAP) and reverse-engineer them

1:02 Non-human intelligence exists, non-human intelligence interacts with humanity, this interaction is not new and it is ongoing. The world's most powerful people no longer deal with the question of whether there is truth to the phenomenon, but with the consequences of its disclosure to the public. As we speak, the subject is being discussed at the most important tables. Dozens of military and government figures are testifying under oath in parliaments around the world, official bills including the words "non-human intelligence" and "technology of unknown origin" are being debated in the United States Senate and classified documents and records on the subject are beginning to be revealed to the world. And if you haven't heard about it, it wouldn't surprise me. While the subject gets wide coverage in the world media, here at home the discussion remains niche, superficial and very stigmatized. It's time to change that. In 2017, after decades in which the American government denied any involvement in the subject, the New York Times publishes a story revealing that the Pentagon itself runs an official, funded program to investigate what are called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAP for short,

2:05 the new and broader name for UFOs. The same story also described several cases in which American fighter pilots documented encounters with unidentified objects that showed flight characteristics beyond anything they knew. Many ask: what about the Israeli Air Force? How is it that in a country with such small airspace and such dense air traffic there were no similar cases? Well, there were. Here is the extraordinary story of Dror Gorlik, a former fighter pilot in the Air Force. Well, I've been waiting for this moment for a very long time. I'm really glad you agreed to do this. So maybe let's start with... tell us who you are, a bit about your background in the Air Force, in aviation. My name is Dror Gorlik. I'm a pilot by profession; I've done it most of my life. I flew in the Air Force for 21, almost 22 years in the fighter corps. Skyhawks, Kfirs, F-15s. I commanded two squadrons. My last post in the Air Force was head of a branch in the Operations Department and I moved straight to flying at El Al. I flew 27 years at El Al in all. I reached retirement age and retired.

3:09 I think it's fair to say you have fairly rich experience in aviation. I have rich experience, a great many hours, a great many regions and missions. How many flight hours do you have? - Oh, on the order of 25,000, something like that. - 25,000 flight hours. Yes. As for operational activity and wars, the 1982 Lebanon War (Operation Peace for Galilee), the Second Lebanon War and various operations. Since I flew fighters, air-to-air missions, defending the country's skies, dogfights and so on. In that kind of activity you get a lot of practice at recognizing situations in the air, different objects, different aircraft aspects, friend or foe, if it's a MiG, then which MiG? There was always a hidden competition among the guys in the squadron over who did it better I was somewhere in the upper part of the group. Except once. What do you mean? We're talking about 1998

4:10 There's an Air Force-wide exercise in which essentially the whole Air Force takes part, various missions. I'm flying in 106 Squadron, F-15. I'm now actually returning from my second flight that day. A completely clear summer day. Not a cloud in the sky. The sun more or less overhead. It's half past twelve, more or less, midday. I'm number 2 in a pair returning to land at Tel Nof. My leader is a two-seater. There's a pilot and a navigator. I'm alone in my aircraft. We come into the circuit approaching the entry to the downwind leg, which is the leg before the turn in to land. I notice some strong yellow light which is something you don't really see on a sunny, clear day like it was. And I fix my eyes on this point of light. For me it starts low, close to the ground. I didn't see it actually on the ground, but I saw it very low. At this stage I judge it to be ahead of my leader, that is, in front of him. I look at it and my feeling

5:12 is that it's some light, the lights of some aircraft entering the circuit the wrong way, and I think of warning him, watch out, someone's head-on to you. At this point I notice it has actually already passed him, that is, the light is no longer ahead of him but between him and me. It (the point of light) isn't heading straight at me, but slightly to my left, slightly east. On the order of 300-400 meters from me. So I don't make any evasive maneuver, I just watch to see that it really will pass beside me and not through me. When it passed on the left side I saw an object... a celestial object, a flying object that I can't explain to this day. A metallic object in the shape of, I would say, a mushroom or a muffin. Not shiny, not reflecting light from any particular point, but clearly silver. When this object grew and turned from a point of light into an object, it became a row of yellow lights around its circumference. A dome on top, two bulges below, completely truncated at the bottom.

6:14 Leaving no trail. No, it didn't look like it had any means of propulsion whatsoever, but it's there and I'm left with this picture burned on my retina for 30 years now. I had never seen anything like this in my life before. I hadn't seen anything close to it. I tried to reconstruct. OK, did I see the silhouette of something? At this point my jaw drops more or less to my knees and I was, uh, I was confused. I said, good God, what did you just see? And I just follow it with my eyes. In the F-15 you can follow because the canopy is high and you can follow it backwards. I look and it disappears, goes in between the tails behind me and disappears as it travels north and I continue south. To this day I can't explain to myself why I didn't light the afterburner and turn after it to try to catch it but I was... I carried straight on. I barely landed. I had,

7:16 I had a hard time concentrating on the landing and not botching it and now I'm on the runway and I stop the aircraft and I say, what did you see? What are you going to do with this? Let's, let's be honest for a moment. Uh, before the "whistleblowers" came out who were supposedly involved in various research programs, anyone, anyone who came and said, "I saw, they did things to me, they touched me, they did..." was treated as someone with some kind of problem, either hallucinating or just telling stories and so on. I didn't want to be associated with that, for personal reasons. I had a little time to think until we got to the squadron, because after every flight there's a debrief. We sat as a crew and I, I decided to tell the crew that was with me what I saw. We're sitting in the squadron at the debrief and I tell the story. I ask, did you see anything? The pilot says, I didn't see anything. The navigator says I saw a strong yellow light passing under our wing, but it went backwards and I chose not to say anything to you.

8:17 How did you feel when he said that? I said, oh! At least there was something there. I tried to find out whether anyone else had seen it. I asked the control tower whether they'd seen, whether they'd seen anything; nothing. I asked air control whether they'd seen something moving around the area of Tel Nof giving a radar return. No, they hadn't seen anything. There was in our squadron [censored] who was then commander of [censored] which is east of [censored]. Don't say that. And I went over to him and drew him the drawing of what I saw. I asked him, [censored], tell me, do we have these? So, so he said, it was a funny answer. He said, we asked for it, there's no budget and with that he excused himself from it. I understood that he obviously didn't know of any such thing, and that it didn't come from where I might have thought it came from. What else I did: I took the jeep I had then on the way home, drove out of Tel Nof, turned left into the fields

9:19 looked to see if I could see anything on the ground, but, uh, I came up empty. I went home. When I got home I was very agitated. I was, I was confused. My eldest son was sitting in the living room. He was about 16 then - My big brother. - Your big brother. And when I came in he looked at me and said, Dad, what happened? The event I experienced put a very, very big question mark for me. For quite a long time this thing kept me awake at night. The question is what, what, what was it? What did I see? Because... this figure that passed through the... passed through my retina was burned in there. I can, I drew it then with precision and I can draw it right now. It's something I see, see inside me... it's not... This, this I saw. This I can't describe as anything else as an object I had encountered before, or a cross-section of an object I'd encountered, or a silhouette

10:21 of one kind or another. I don't know, I don't know. And yes, it takes you to places of, OK, where is this thing from, where did it come from? Did you have a camera on the aircraft? - A gunsight camera. - OK. It films the gunsight, the head-up display. And did it capture the object during the event itself? - That camera films when you switch it on and it films when you lower the landing gear. It films the two minutes after gear-down to catch the landing, and that's automatic. This was before I lowered the gear, so it didn't film anything. At that time there weren't the cameras there are today; you didn't have a helmet camera? No, no, no, there was no helmet sight then. Helmets weren't fitted for it. No. That only came later. You fly with systems on the aircraft, radar, the identification friend-or-foe systems aircraft have. - Nothing. - Nothing at all? - Nothing at all. - Have you ever seen an object that looked similar? Could it have been - a weather balloon? - I've seen weather balloons. I've seen a rocket launched in the Almaty area.

11:23 I've seen all sorts of strange objects. I've never seen anything like this ever. Not before and not after. Earlier you described dramatic events that happened to you in flight. You were hit by a missile... Did you have other events like this in terms of how the flight felt? - No. - This is the most extreme event? Even when I was hit by a missile and lights started coming on in the cockpit and I lost that system I knew what was happening. I was in control because I knew the systems and I knew the emergency procedures. Here I knew nothing. When it entered my retina, it simply made a very, very dramatic change in my way of thinking and in my response. The fact is, I'm flying an F-15, an aircraft whose job is to shoot aircraft out of the sky so when you run into this, you immediately go into war mode, and this aircraft knows, knows how to maneuver. I did nothing. Did anyone else in the Air Force hear about this? First of all I told some of the people, and I told it at El Al. At El Al you fly 12 hours over the Atlantic,

12:25 - so you tell stories. - Yes. Because there's nothing to talk about. I told it to someone who is an astrophysicist by training. OK. And he collects testimonies. About... encounters of this kind. I told him I had no problem with him telling the story. I just didn't want him to publish my name or through the media and so on. And here you are, face shown, name given. Why? Why now? That's easy for me to say. Because too many people in too many places are already talking about it much more openly. Serious people who are willing to put their good name, and probably much more than that, on the line to tell this they know things only they know, each what he experienced and worked on. And when I started seeing all kinds of examples of things, of footage, mostly from aircraft by the way, that are circulating on social networks today and so on, I come across this shape that I saw again and again. How do they say? "It turns out" other people saw what I saw.

13:26 Do you know of other people in the Air Force who saw similar things? When I tell this, people usually say to me, yes, I saw something too. How do they say? Big sky, small planes, but all sorts of things are apparently flying around up there. How does it make you feel that other people saw it? It doesn't make me feel anything, but it's good that there are, because... I need corroboration for what happened. - Because you doubt yourself? - No. - OK. - I don't doubt myself at all. - You, you know what you saw. - I know what I saw. Why, why should people listen to you? Everyone will do as they see fit. Again, I... My yardstick is that I'm telling this to you and I'm your father. I'm not here to pull one over on you and promote myself or... No. I told you then, and I'm telling you today, because it's something I experienced. It's something I carry with me... Again, I wish I could explain it better. I can't.

14:30 But I know that I can't explain it. And I know that it falls, for me at least, within a field that is my expertise seeing objects in the air, dealing with objects in the air and flying is expertise. I've been doing it for many years I have a great deal of experience. There may be people who have more experience. There are certainly many more people who have less. And precisely there, I ran into something I can't explain.
