Scott Carpenter
Also known as M. Scott Carpenter, Carpenter
- Commander, U.S. Navy; Mercury Seven astronaut (Mercury-Atlas 7, 1962)
Scott Carpenter (1925–2013) was a U.S. Navy pilot and one of the Mercury Seven; his Mercury-Atlas 7 flight in May 1962 was the second U.S. orbital flight.
On that flight he described white particles around the capsule that moved at random and looked "exactly like snowflakes", some faster than the spacecraft; NASA attributed these "fireflies" to frozen condensation from the spacecraft. The audio was released by NASA in PURSUE release 02.
