Ubatuba magnesium fragments
Also known as Ubatuba, Ubatuba fragments, Ubatuba case
A civilian case with no official witness. It is in the archive because of Nolan's isotope analysis, which tests the claim instead of just repeating it.
Facts and claims
- claimed A Brazilian newspaper columnist received a letter and three metal fragments from a writer who said a UFO had exploded over the beach at Ubatuba. A laboratory found the fragments were pure magnesium. Some ufologists argued for an extraterrestrial origin, while other investigators consider it a hoax. Source: en.wikipedia.org (archived)
- claimed Garry Nolan analysed pieces from two chains of custody said to come from the same object with secondary-ion mass spectrometry. One had normal magnesium isotope ratios and the other was “way off”. He leaves open whether one chain was a hoax. — Garry Nolan Source: Garry Nolan: UFOs and Aliens (Lex Fridman Podcast #262) at 1:00:25
