Travis Walton abduction

On 5 November 1975, a seven-man forestry crew led by Mike Rogers was driving home from a thinning contract in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest near Heber, Arizona, when they said they saw a glowing object hovering over a clearing. Travis Walton, 22, got out and walked towards it; the crew said a beam of light struck him and threw him to the ground, and they drove off in panic. When they returned, Walton and the object were gone.

Walton was missing for five days, until he telephoned from a payphone in Heber on 11 November, saying he had been aboard a craft with non-human beings. The Arizona polygraph examiner C. E. Gilson tested the crew and found five of six truthful and one inconclusive; Walton failed an earlier test by examiner John McCarthy, who reported "gross deception". Walton's book The Walton Experience (1978) became the film Fire in the Sky (1993).

The sceptic Philip J. Klass and others argued the event was a hoax to escape a penalty of about $2,500 for falling behind on the forestry contract.
