U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires airgram A-208 on a celestial body observed over Antarctica (1965)
A one-page confidential State Department airgram from the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, signed for the ambassador by Albert Mayio, counsellor for commercial and economic affairs, dated 4 September 1965. It was released by the National Security Agency in its UFO document collection; our copy is the NSA's PDF as archived by the Wayback Machine. The scan is poor, and the text was read by OCR and checked against the image.
It shows that the U.S. government followed the 1965 Deception Island sightings through its naval attaché, and it records the La Plata Observatory's remark that Echo II was passing over the Antarctic at the time.

Facts and claims
- documented A confidential airgram from the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires to the Department of State, dated 4 September 1965, answering a Department enquiry about the Antarctic sightings. It refers to a Defense intelligence information report of July 1965 that translated four messages received by the Argentine Navy Hydrographic Service about the reported unidentified flying objects, and says the naval attaché had asked the Argentine Navy for more information, unlikely before the summer exchange of personnel at the Antarctic stations.
