Corso's service is real: he was an Army intelligence officer, served on Eisenhower's National Security Council staff and was briefly deputy chief of Army Foreign Technology. His Roswell claims, however, are uncorroborated by any record, and the senator who wrote the foreword disavowed them. The book belongs here as an influential, disputed first-person claim, not as evidence.

Government Executive reported in June 1997 that Thurmond had written the foreword believing the book was an autobiography, praising Corso's "great deal of expertise" in intelligence and national security, and then withdrew it: "I know of no such 'cover-up' and do not believe one existed."
