Kátia Xavier

On 20 January 1996, aged 22, she was one of the three young women who said they saw a creature crouching by a wall on a vacant lot in Jardim Andere, Varginha. In her 2026 statement she says she was two metres from it and has never changed a syllable of her account in thirty years.

She is a civilian witness, filed outside the archive's criteria; her account is the core of the case, and the Brazilian Army's 1997 inquiry judged that what the three women saw was most likely a local man crouched in the rain.
