Giancarlo Cecconi
Also known as Maresciallo Cecconi, Cecconi
- Maresciallo pilota, 14° Gruppo, 2° Stormo, Italian Air Force (Treviso Sant'Angelo); G-91R reconnaissance pilot
Giancarlo Cecconi was a maresciallo pilota (warrant-officer pilot) of the Italian Air Force's 14° Gruppo, 2° Stormo, based at Treviso Sant'Angelo, flying the G-91R reconnaissance fighter. On 18 June 1979, returning from a photo-reconnaissance mission, he was directed onto an unknown object over the airfield and photographed it with the aircraft's cameras.
He was reluctant to talk while still in service; he left the Air Force in 1983, and his name reached the press in 1984. He gave a detailed account to investigators of CISU, the Italian Centre for UFO Studies, in September 1994, and in 1995 the one print he had kept from the sortie resurfaced and was published. No recorded interview with him has been found: his words are known through CISU's write-up and through what researcher Antonio Chiumiento relayed to the press.
