A. J. Gevaerd (1962–2022) was a Brazilian ufologist, a former chemistry teacher who in 1988 founded Revista UFO, Brazil's long-running UFO magazine, and directed the Brazilian Center for Flying Saucer Research and MUFON's Brazilian branch. He said he had carried out more than 700 field investigations in Brazil, and he was the leading promoter of the 1996 Varginha case and of the 1977 Operação Prato, whose commander, Col. Uyrangê Hollanda, gave him a long interview in 1997.

His 2004 campaign "UFOs: Freedom of Information Now!" brought a group of civilian researchers into Brazilian Air Force facilities in May 2005 to see UFO files, and the government later released hundreds of pages, a rare case of a disclosure campaign achieving official releases. At the 2013 Citizen Hearing he testified on Operação Prato, Varginha and the Brazilian Ministry of Defence. His accounts of the cases rely largely on witnesses he interviewed.
