Incident · 27 October 1977 · Cagliari-Elmas airport, Sardinia, Italy
Cagliari-Elmas orange sphere seen by Army and Air Force pilots (Italy, 1977)
Also known as Elmas 1977, Cagliari 1977
On the evening of 27 October 1977, military pilots at Cagliari-Elmas in Sardinia watched an orange luminous sphere for more than an hour. The Italian Air Force's summary table lists three Army Aviation pilots and two Air Force personnel as the reporters, and the case remains catalogued as unidentified.
The table names no one. Later Italian accounts name an Army major as the main witness and say radar detected nothing, but those details are not yet backed by the underlying military report.
