UFOs and Nukes press conference, National Press Club

Also known as UFO–Nukes Connection press conference, National Press Club 2010

On 27 September 2010, researcher Robert Hastings, author of UFOs and Nukes, brought seven former U.S. Air Force officers and airmen to the National Press Club in Washington to describe UFO incidents at nuclear-missile and weapons-storage sites from the 1960s to 1980: Malmstrom, Walker and F.E. Warren Air Force Bases and RAF Bentwaters. Each spoke about his own experience, though several were relaying what guards or other personnel had reported.

Their accounts are testimony. The Air Force's position, read out by Salas, is that no UFO it evaluated was ever a threat to national security. For Malmstrom, the wing's own records say rumours of UFOs around Echo Flight were disproven.

Facts and claims

Key moments: UFOs and Nukes press conference, National Press Club (27 September 2010)

  1. 1:47 Robert Salas: Salas: on 24 March 1967, as deputy crew commander at Oscar Flight with Lt. Fred Meiwald, his topside guard reported strange lights, then called back screaming about a red glowing object about 30 ft across hovering above the front gate.
  2. 9:37 Dwynne Arneson: Dwynne Arneson, then officer in charge of the 28th Air Division communications centre in Great Falls, says that in March 1967 a message passed through his centre reporting that a UFO had shut down several missile silos in Montana.
  3. 11:37 Dwynne Arneson: Arneson says his Boeing supervisor, the engineer who investigated the Echo Flight shutdown, told him the missiles "did not go down by themselves" and that the Air Force told Boeing to stop the investigation and send no report.
  4. 13:17 Robert Jamison: Robert Jamison, a missile targeting team commander, says that before being sent to restart Oscar Flight he was told a UFO had been seen over Roy, Montana, and saw on the job-control board that all of Oscar Flight was down, which he was told had happened once before, at Echo Flight.
  5. 17:52 Robert Jamison: Jamison says his targeting team was held back about an hour and a half, then drove to Oscar Flight, 120 miles from the base, and restarted three or four missiles. He says he saw nothing unusual in the field.
  6. 26:05 Charles Halt: On his memo: Third Air Force decided it was a British affair, so he wrote a "cleaned-up memo" of unexplained lights for the MoD. He later learned that the airmen involved had been harshly interrogated.
  7. 28:37 Jerome Nelson: Jerome Nelson: in the winter of 1963–64 his guard at Atlas site 9 near Roswell reported a fully illuminated round object hovering silently over the silo and shining a light on it, several times over the following month.
  8. 31:48 Patrick McDonough: Patrick McDonough: in September 1966, surveying a new Minuteman site near Conrad, Montana, he saw a round object about 50 ft across stop over the open silo with a light shining down, then shoot off east.
  9. 42:21 Bruce Fenstermacher: Bruce Fenstermacher: in autumn 1976, as a crew commander at F.E. Warren, his topside guard reported a huge white pulsating "pregnant cigar" over the launch control facility that moved from silo to silo. The command post at first laughed it off.
  10. 48:50 Robert Salas: Robert Salas says the participants have signed affidavits. He reads the Air Force statement that no UFO it evaluated was ever a threat to national security, and calls it misleading.
