UFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Cover-up, 1941–1973

Glimpses
The UFO problem has involved military personnel around the world for more than fifty years, and is wrapped in secrecy.
The first volume of Richard Dolan's history (Keyhole Publishing, 2000; Hampton Roads, 2002) follows the U.S. government's handling of UFOs from the Second World War to the end of Project Blue Book, mainly through declassified documents: Projects Sign and Grudge, the 1952 Washington sightings, the CIA's Robertson Panel, Blue Book and the Condon study. Its argument is that the national-security apparatus treated the subject as serious while publicly playing it down. Jacques Vallée wrote the foreword.
It is the most detailed documentary chronology of the period; its conclusion that a deliberate cover-up hid a real phenomenon is Dolan's interpretation of records that others read as bureaucratic dismissal.
