Glimpses
In a decade as politically and socially paranoid as the 1950s, it was only a matter of time before George King’s activities would come to the attention of the intelligence services.
Belief in a government cover-up expressed by King and his followers were in essence no different to those held by the members of today’s Disclosure Movement.
Flying Saucerers (Alternative Albion, 2007) is a social history of British ufology by the historian David Clarke and the researcher Andy Roberts. Rather than the sightings themselves, it studies the people around them: the clubs, magazines, contactees and investigators who made up the British UFO scene from the 1950s onward, and how their beliefs and methods shaped what the public came to think UFOs were.
