GoFast: the official U.S. Navy video (January 2015)
Also known as GoFast, Go Fast, GoFast video
U.S. Navy, NAVAIR FOIA Reading Room · January 2015 · 1 min · Watch the original
The 34-second infrared video recorded by an F/A-18 crew off the U.S. East Coast in January 2015, during the USS Theodore Roosevelt's pre-deployment exercises. It seems to show a small object skimming the ocean at high speed. It was published by To The Stars Academy and The New York Times in December 2017, and the Department of Defense authorized its official release on 27 April 2020.
AARO's February 2025 case resolution and NASA's 2023 study both found that the object was at about 13,000 feet, not near the surface, moving at roughly wind speed. AARO says it cannot identify the object.
The cockpit audio is poor: the transcript is a machine transcription. This copy comes from the Naval Air Systems Command FOIA reading room.

Key moments
- 0:00 The pod searches the ocean surface for the object.
- 0:13 The pod locks on to a small object low over the water, and the crew react with surprise.
- 0:20 The object appears to race across the sea surface; AARO and NASA later found it was at about 13,000 feet, moving at roughly wind speed, the apparent speed coming from parallax.
