Key moments

  1. 1:11 Charles Halt: Halt on the first night: three security policemen approached a metallic, triangular object about nine feet on a side; he says their memory was altered and there was probably more than an hour of lost time.
  2. 2:09 Charles Halt: Two nights later the duty police lieutenant interrupted an officers' dinner: “It's back.” Halt went out to investigate.
  3. 2:53 Charles Halt: Halt: at three indentations in the ground, the Geiger counter showed readings nine to ten times background.
  4. 3:36 Charles Halt: A glowing, winking red object with a dark centre moved through the trees, appearing to shed molten metal.
  5. 4:14 Charles Halt: Halt says the Orford Ness lighthouse was visible to the right the whole time as a separate white light, before the object exploded into multiple white objects.
  6. 6:12 Charles Halt: Halt: objects sent beams like lasers down into the bases, near the weapons storage area, and one stopped overhead and put a beam about 10 feet from his feet.
  7. 7:39 Charles Halt: At a 3rd Air Force staff meeting a two-star general asked “Is Halt credible?”, then decided that because it happened off base it was a British affair.
  8. 8:08 Charles Halt: Halt: on the RAF liaison officer's advice he wrote a memo, “sanitized just a little bit”, expecting an MoD inquiry that never came.
  9. 8:54 Charles Halt: Halt: the objects were “obviously intelligently controlled”; he has never been officially debriefed.

0:00 Let me say in December or January 1980, I was reassigned from the Pentagon to RAF Fentwaters in East Suffolk, England. At that time, Fentwaters was the largest tactical fighter wing in the world. It was supposed to two geographically separated bases in England, four operating locations in Germany and two standby locations in Germany. The concept of operation was that should the Eastern Bloc countries come through the Boulder Gap and into Germany. The A-10s at Fentwaters would pick up lock, stock, and barrel and move to Germany and go kill armor, and the base would be backfilled with strike aircraft. We even had pre-positioned weapons for it. A very strange event occurred in December of that year, 1980. The night of December 25th, the morning of December 26th, our security police were doing their routine patrols on the base when the patrol at RAF Woodbridge saw what he thought with a dying aircraft in the forest out from the East Gate. They called us the control center. They checked with all the pertinent

1:01 authorities and they came back. Nothing's flying, nothing in the air, nothing reported dying. So a small group of three security policemen went into the forest to investigate. What they saw from the gate was multiple lights, red lights, blue lights, flashing lights. They approached an object, metallic in shape, triangular, about nine feet on a side, sitting on the equivalent of a pedestal. What happened from then on, the rest of the evening, we're not really sure because their memory has been altered. They had a very unusual experience. There's probably more than an hour of lost time. They did come back to the base all, how should I say, concerned and upset. Most of the police didn't want to talk about it. It was kind of hush-hush. They did make a minor entry in the police blotters. It requires to be. Most of us, the senior officers, thought, well, there had to be an explanation and didn't get too excited. Two nights later, I was at the end of the year, sort of a Christmas party, recognition

2:05 dinner for the officers in the combat support group. It was a covered-dish family affair. And we just finished eating when the on-duty police lieutenant came in, just white as a sheet. And he said to the base commander and I, "It's back." Of course, we said, "What's back?" And he said, "The UFO." And we just looked at each other. We did believe him. Well, my boss had to make a presentation and give a speech or two, so he fell on me to go investigate. I went home, changed clothes, and gathered up a small group of people, including the disaster preparedness, NCO, and had them bring a ganger kind and a camera along. We went out into the forest, and he took me to a site, three indentations in the ground, equal distance apart, about an inch and a half to two inches deep, and said, "Here's where the object was seen two nights before." Lo and behold, when we put the ganger counter down, we got radiation readings were nine to ten times higher than background radiation. Rub marks on the trees. Obviously, something had happened there.

3:05 Looking up through the trees, which by the way were very mature, of course, at the pines, you could see an opening in the canopy directly above the broken branches, though something had gone up or come down. While we're there milling around trying to figure out what was going on or what had happened, one of the members of the party said, "Look, there's a strange red light out there." Looking through the forest, we saw an object, glowing object, oval, like this, probably a little larger than a basketball. It had a dark center, and it appeared to be winking. It was moving from side to side and shedding the equivalent of molten metal. Something was dripping off it. We watched the object for probably a minute or two. It came into the forest in the field. It moved through the trees horizontally, bobbing up and down occasionally to miss branches. It came towards us at one point and then receded back out into the farmer's field, which was to the east of us. We moved up to the fence line to get a better look at it, and I could see the glow

4:08 off the windows in the farmer's house until the house was on fire. The right was blowing. Oh, just like a fire. I was quite concerned for the office in the house. The whole time we could see the Orford Nest lighthouse off to the right. It was a white light. The object finally exploded like fireworks into multiple white objects and they disappeared. Whoa. We went out into the field and searched around to see if we could find any evidence of whatever was coming off the object compared to shedding something. We found nothing except evidence of cattle. While we were looking around, we decided to go further out into the far field to get a better look in the sky. In front of the party, I don't remember who it was, that looked at the north. There were multiple objects in the sky. They were elliptical, multicolored, more or five of them. They turned in a half-moon shape. They were moving in synchronization together,

5:08 making sharp angular turns. We just stood there in awe. I had taken my small pocket recorder along, so I was reporting most of this information. I called the command post on the radio. By the way, we were having trouble with the radio. They were really acting up. And asked them to have the eastern radar, who had air defense for that sector, look in the sky and that was their place. They came back and said, "They don't find anything." I said, "Does anybody with any of the radar see anything?" And I was told no. Well, lo and behold, several years later I found out that the air traffic controllers in the Pentwater's tire did see the object. It came close to the air traffic control tire. It was glowing red. It crossed their 60-mile scope in seconds, twice, went out into the area we were and they saw it descend into the force. Well, this didn't come out until several years later. I also found out that the eastern radar had picked up a blip or two at the same time. That didn't come out until later because it was a misunderstanding on the dates.

6:09 So, I wish I'd known that then, but I didn't. We continued on watching the objects in the sky and saw two to the side. One of the objects at the south, standing down, I would say beams alight, sort of like laser beams, into Woodbridge base and Bentwater base, primarily into Bentwater base. They landed somewhere in or near the weapons storage area. I could hear a lot of chatter on the police radios, talking back and forth about what was going on, what they saw. It was really puzzling. The object to the south came overhead, directly overhead, very high speed, stopped 3 or 4,000 feet of elevation. 10 times we put them to laser feet, right by our feet, about 10 feet away from us. We all just stood there in awe. We had a message, a method of communication, a warning, something lethal. We were just trying to move. Just as suddenly as the object refused, it disappeared.

7:09 The object went back to the south. We stayed out there for several hours, trying to figure out what was going on. There was no interest on the part of the command post. Nobody would say anything. They didn't know anything, supposedly. So, after three or four hours, we returned back to the base. I took my tape and played it for several of the senior officers, including the wing commander. We took it to the 3rd Air Force headquarters, the staff meeting, and they played my tape. And the two-star general said to my boss, "Well," he said, "Is Halt credible?" He said, "Yes." So, the general turned to the staff and said, "Well, what do we do?" Nobody answered. So, the general said, "Well, it happened off the base. Therefore, it must be a British affair." So, my boss came back and gave me the tape back, and I said, "What do I do?" He said, "We'll get with the liaison officer for the RAF." He was in Wales on holiday. I had to wait a week or so.

8:11 So, when he came back, he and I kind of agonized, and he said, "Write a memo." So, I wrote a memo. I kind of cleaned it up and made it sanitized just a little bit, assuming it would go to the M.O.D., Ministry of Defense, and I would get an inquiry, and somebody would come investigate it. So, I took a few days turned into weeks, turned into months. Actually, I was quite happy. I really didn't want to be involved. In fact, the whole time we were out in the forest investigating, I kept thinking, "Why did I get involved?" Nobody's going to ever believe this. How do I explain this? This is not exactly career enhancing. Well, to this day, I don't know what happened. I do know that there was some strange phenomena, some things we couldn't understand. The objects we saw were obviously intelligently controlled. They went at high speed, faster than anything we know. I don't have the answer. I certainly wish I knew more. The three young airmen that were out initially to investigate have never been the

9:11 same. That's all I'm going to say on that. They had chromatic experience, and they're lightbulking, I guess, is the best way to put it. I have never been officially debriefed, which is interesting. I've had a lot of inquiries and talked to a lot of high-level people. Again, no answer. I wish I knew more.
