Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group
Also known as AOIMSG
The Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group was set up on 23 November 2021 by Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, in coordination with the Director of National Intelligence, as the successor to the Navy's UAP Task Force. Its remit was to detect, identify and attribute objects in special-use airspace and assess threats to flight safety and national security.
It existed for less than a year: in July 2022 it was renamed and expanded into the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), following the FY2022 NDAA amendment led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
