Takanori Tamefuji
Also known as Tamefuji, First Officer Tamefuji
- First Officer, Japan Air Lines (Boeing 747), 1986
Takanori Tamefuji was the first officer of Japan Air Lines cargo flight 1628, flying the Boeing 747 from the right-hand seat when the crew first saw unidentified lights over eastern Alaska on 17 November 1986.
Interviewed by the FAA in Anchorage on 5 January 1987, he said he saw the lights for only five to ten minutes, as the object then moved to the captain's side; he first took them for oncoming aircraft, saw a large green echo on the weather radar, did not see the huge object the captain described, and said: "I am certain that I saw something."
