Ed Rhodes was an American airline pilot serving as chief pilot of Tajik Air in 1994. A U.S. Embassy Dushanbe cable of 31 January 1994 records his report that on 27 January he and two American colleagues watched a brightly lit object manoeuvre for about forty minutes while they flew a Boeing 747SP at 41,000 feet over Kazakhstan; the cable notes the crew's years of flying passenger aircraft for Pan Am.
