Person
Barry Mitchell
Also known as Sgt. Barry Mitchell, Sergeant Mitchell
- Sergeant, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary (Barnstaple Police, Devon), 1993
Barry Mitchell was a police sergeant with Barnstaple Police in North Devon (Devon and Cornwall Constabulary). At about 1.10 am on 31 March 1993, driving north into the coastal town of Lynton with Officer Gus Cottey, he stopped the patrol car to watch two very bright lights approach across the Bristol Channel and pass over, with a third, smaller light between them; he took the lights to be fixed to one large, silent object.
The Devon UFO Research Organisation's report on the sightings, filed in the Ministry of Defence's case file (DEFE 24/2086), records the account of the Lynton sergeant and constable without their names. Mitchell and Cottey told it on camera for the U.S. television series Sightings in the mid-1990s.
