ODNI Preliminary Assessment on UAP
On 25 June 2021, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence published its Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, prepared with the Navy-led UAP Task Force: the first unclassified U.S. government report on the subject.
It examined 144 reports from U.S. government sources, mostly from military aviators between 2004 and 2021, and identified only one with high confidence, as a large deflating balloon; the rest remained unexplained. In 18 incidents observers reported unusual movement or flight characteristics, and there were 11 documented near misses. The report concluded that UAP probably lack a single explanation and pose a flight-safety and possibly a national-security problem.
