UFOs: Past, Present, and Future is a 1974 American documentary, written by Robert Emenegger, produced by Allan Sandler and narrated by Rod Serling, with Burgess Meredith and José Ferrer. It reviews sightings from the post-war years onward, with interviews including J. Allen Hynek, Col. Robert Friend and Col. William Coleman of Project Blue Book and Col. George Weinbrenner of Foreign Technology at Wright-Patterson. It was re-released in 1976 and 1979 as UFOs: It Has Begun, around Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
The filmmakers say they made it with the cooperation of officials at Norton Air Force Base and were promised Air Force footage of a landing at Holloman Air Force Base for the finale. The footage never came, and the film ends instead with a dramatised Holloman landing narrated by Serling. A later claim that a few seconds of real footage appear in it was debunked: the shot is part of the reenactment. The writer Jason Colavito notes that sources conflict on who commissioned the film.
