Claim
Betty and Barney Hill were taken aboard a non-human craft in New Hampshire in September 1961
Also known as Hill abduction claim
Open. No official finding addresses the abduction account, which emerged under hypnosis in 1964; Project Blue Book's file covers only the light the Hills reported, which it attributed to a temperature inversion and later to Jupiter. (Project Blue Book case file: Lincoln, New Hampshire, September 1961 (the Hill case))
The first widely publicised abduction account: driving home through the White Mountains, the Hills saw a light following their car; under hypnosis three years later they described being taken aboard a craft and examined.
Who has said it, in order
- 20 September 1961 Project Blue Book — disputes it, documented: Project Blue Book filed the sighting under Lincoln, New Hampshire, 20 September 1961, as "Insufficient Data for Evaluation".
