Situation Red, the UFO Siege! (Doubleday, 1977) is Leonard Stringfield's survey of the American sighting wave of the early 1970s, with a foreword by Donald Keyhoe, the retired Marine major who had led the civilian group NICAP. Its closing chapters first raised in book form the stories Stringfield would spend the rest of his life collecting: informants who said the military had recovered crashed craft and bodies. A year later he presented his first "crash/retrieval" status report to the Mutual UFO Network.
