Department of War / AARO (DVIDS) · 2 July 1952 · 1 min · Watch the original

A digitization of the 16mm Kodachrome film that U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer Delbert C. Newhouse shot near Tremonton, Utah, on 2 July 1952 and sent to the Air Force; one of Project Blue Book's visual cases. Released as PR159 in PURSUE release 06; the records submitted with it (D102) say it was originally paired with Idaho mountain scenery, not preserved here.

Key moments

  1. 0:00 Delbert Newhouse's 16mm Kodachrome film of “a group of bright airborne objects” over Tremonton, shot with a hand-held Bell & Howell camera (AARO). The Robertson Panel and later Air Force assessments favoured seagulls reflecting sunlight; the Navy's photo analysts disagreed.
  2. 0:55 The film switches to “unrelated footage appearing to show a demonstration of sewing equipment”, which AARO suggests means the surviving print may be a composite or reused reel.
