Japan's Ministry of Defense oversees the Self-Defense Forces. In September 2020 Defense Minister Taro Kono ordered the forces to record, photograph and analyse unidentified aerial objects, a step he said was prompted by the Pentagon's release of Navy UAP videos that April.
