A Ministry of Defence file of the UFO desk's sighting reports from February 1999 to January 2000, opened at The National Archives in February 2010: the standard forms faxed in by RAF stations, air traffic units and police, with names redacted, and the desk's referrals of the few reports from witnesses it rated credible.

Facts and claims
- documented Under the desk's 1999 procedure, reports from “credible witnesses”, here a police officer and an air traffic controller, went to the air defence staff to establish whether they represented “anything of air defence interest”; for the Prestwick radar contact HQ 11/18 Group examined recordings from three radars, found no matching traffic and reported the case “of no further interest to HQAD” (pp. 274–276, 298, 301).
